Not All Butters Are the Same
Why We Use Different Botanical Butters Across Body, Lip, and Balm Formulas
“Butter” sounds simple, but in formulation, botanical butters are anything but. Each one has its own personality — how it melts, how it absorbs, how it supports the skin barrier, and how it feels hours later.
We’re all super familiar with Shea Butter, which is a fantastic ingredient. At AliBee, we use butters intentionally across our body butters, lip butters, and balms, choosing each one based on performance, texture, and comfort. They’re not interchangeable, and they’re never filler ingredients.
Here’s a closer look at our favorite butters — and why each one earns its place.
Mango Butter
Lightweight Comfort That Melts In
Mango butter is one of our most versatile butters because of its naturally lighter feel and smooth melt. It absorbs more quickly than traditional heavy butters and leaves skin feeling cushioned rather than coated.
Why we use it:
• Absorbs faster than heavier butters
• Leaves a silky, breathable finish
• Softens dry or crepey areas
• Cushions skin without greasiness
• Feels present, not heavy
Where you’ll find it:
• Whipped body butters for all-over comfort
• Lip butters where glide and wearability matter
• Balms that need nourishment without drag
Mango butter is ideal when we want skin to feel nourished and comfortable all day.
Cupuaçu Butter
Deep Hydration and Moisture Retention
Cupuaçu butter is known for its ability to bind and retain moisture, helping skin stay hydrated longer — especially during dry weather or skin transitions.
Why we use it:
• Excellent moisture-holding capacity
• Helps improve skin flexibility
• Supports long-lasting hydration
• Rich without feeling suffocating
Where it shines:
• Balms designed to protect and restore
• Lip formulas that need staying power
Cupuaçu is a favorite when skin feels thirsty no matter how often you moisturize.
Kokum Butter
Clean, Firm, and Barrier-Supportive
Kokum butter is unique for its firmness and low greasiness. It helps support the skin barrier while maintaining a clean, balanced feel.
Why we choose it:
• Non-greasy, stable texture
• Supports barrier integrity
• Helps smooth rough or uneven skin
• Adds structure without waxiness
Best used in:
• Balms that need structure and durability
• Body formulas for sensitive or reactive-feeling skin
Kokum butter helps create products that feel protective without being heavy.
Shea Butter
Rich Barrier Support, Used Thoughtfully
Shea butter is a classic for good reason. It’s deeply nourishing and excellent at helping reduce moisture loss. That said, it can feel heavy on some skin types, so we use it intentionally and in balance.
Why we use it selectively:
• Supports compromised or very dry skin
• Adds cushion and comfort
• Helps calm stressed skin
Where it works best:
• Balms for hands, cuticles, and targeted areas
Shea brings comfort and protection when skin needs extra support.
Why Blending Matters
No single butter does it all. The real magic happens in how they’re blended with skin-compatible oils.
By layering different butters, we’re able to:
• Control absorption and finish
• Support the skin barrier without heaviness
• Create products that feel good immediately and hours later
• Design formulas that work across body, lips, and targeted areas
This is why lovely customers often tell us they still feel softness at the end of the day — even when sliding into bed.
